Advertising Program

Online Advertising on a Budget

If you wish to include online advertising in your advertising program it is important to leverage the advertising by targeting the appropriate audience. Furthermore, if you are going to pay someone else to get people to your site (pay per click advertising) you need to be sure that the place you choose to display your pay-per-click ad is a site that attracts your target demographic. The people who buy a product or service typically fall into a certain demographic range. For example, if you sold surf boards you would probably want to target young men, ages 16-25, living in a country or state with plenty of shoreline, and a well wired environment. Men who have no internet access cannot buy your surfboards online!

But you can’t stop there. Your online advertising program must be even more targeted if you want to leverage your pay per click advertising. How do you find young men with all the characteristics described above and make sure they have plenty of disposable income and love the outdoors? It’s really not so hard. Once you define the target demographic for your products and services you can perform online research, looking for other sites that target the same demographic. To stay with our product example, let’s suppose you want to develop an online advertising or marketing campaign for young men who want to buy your surf boards. You might partner with a publisher who offers online content for men who are fitness buffs or, perhaps, you want to offer a banner ad or engage in an affiliate marketing program with a business site that features travel packages for surfers.

As online advertising grows in popularity, search engine companies began to sponsor a variety of online advertising programs. Programs like the Google advertising program appeal to small businesses and businesses with a limited advertising program and marketing budget. These programs allow you to use keywords and targeted content to bring your web site to the top of the search engine hit list and/or the sponsored link list. As your company grows, the percentage of your advertising program budget dedicated to online advertising may grow as well. But if you are smart, you may just be able to grow your business without spending more money. Remember, the key to advertising programs is to know your audience. With the right approach and knowledge of your market and client base, you can easily leverage the online community to sell your products.
